Why Organizations Work with Travel Unity

Many organizations want to be more welcoming and inclusive, but they are not always sure where gaps exist, how to talk about the work, or how to turn values into practical decisions.

Travel Unity helps organizations:

  • Strengthen trust with communities, travelers, members, and partners

  • Improve programs, events, communications, and operations

  • Support staff and leadership with practical inclusive practices

  • Identify barriers, respond credibly, and connect welcoming practices to growth, workforce, community, and visitor experience goals

Our Approach

Building Understanding

We help teams develop the knowledge and perspective needed to better understand travelers, colleagues, and communities.

  • Build empathy through real-world examples and guided discussion
  • Recognize assumptions that shape decisions and communication
  • Learn how identity, culture, and lived experience affect travel
  • Understand the needs of the people and communities they serve

Turning Understanding Into Practice

We guide organizations in applying what they learn to the practices, decisions, and relationships that shape people’s experiences.

  • Review policies, communications, programs, and operations
  • Identify barriers that may limit access, belonging, or participation
  • Strengthen responses when issues or mistakes arise
  • Build partnerships that support more welcoming and equitable outcomes

How Travel Unity Helps Organizations Move Forward

Visit Greater Palm Springs logo

“These conversations can be uncomfortable. I said things and afterward I thought, why did I say all of that? “Oh, because I felt comfortable enough to.””

From internal alignment to community leadership

Travel Unity worked with Visit Greater Palm Springs to connect inclusive practices to staff alignment, partner engagement, community relationships, and future hospitality and tourism career pathways.

This multi-year engagement began with internal assessment and staff alignment, then expanded into departmental conversations, organizational certification support, city and partner discussions across the Coachella Valley, and student programming connected to hospitality and tourism careers.

How Travel Unity helped:

  • Internal alignment with staff and leadership
  • Department-level conversations around practical inclusive practices
  • Support for organizational certification and destination-wide welcoming practices
  • Conversations with partners and community stakeholders
  • Student programming connected to hospitality and tourism career pathways

“Travel Unity helped us clarify the DEI lane, stay accountable, and identify systems that could help codify the work.”

Supporting inclusion work through organizational transition

Travel Unity worked with Clackamas County Tourism / Oregon’s Mt. Hood Territory during a period of organizational change, helping the team move from broad interest in inclusion to clearer structure, shared language, and practical next steps.

The engagement included staff interviews, departmental conversations, board and staff training, HR and marketing assessments, and support for an equity action plan. The work was designed to help inclusion become less of a standalone topic and more connected to strategy, communications, internal practices, partner engagement, and accountability.

How Travel Unity helped:

  • Created space for staff and leadership to name questions, concerns, and opportunities
  • Reviewed HR and marketing practices through an inclusion lens
  • Facilitated board and staff training focused on practical application
  • Helped identify where inclusion could be built into everyday work, not treated as a separate box to check
  • Supported the development of an equity action plan for continued implementation

“Travel Unity’s training helped elevate the importance of this work across our team and made clear that each of us is responsible for our collective voice.”

Turning inclusive values into an action plan

A regional Southeast U.S. destination organization wanted to move from broad commitment to clearer action across staff training, communications, human resources, stakeholder engagement, and long-term planning.

Travel Unity helped the organization use its Standards as a practical framework for planning, discussion, and accountability. The engagement connected staff learning, committee structure, internal practices, marketing materials, leadership development, and certification pathways into a more coherent plan.

How Travel Unity helped:

  • Guided planning through Travel Unity Standards
  • Supported staff learning and leadership development
  • Reviewed communications, visitor-facing materials, and internal practices
  • Helped connect inclusion goals to annual business planning
  • Created a clearer path for staff, leadership, and committee members to keep the work moving

In practice, the work helped the organization:

  • Build inclusion goals into its annual business plan
  • Strengthen its visitor guide and photography strategy
  • Improve how representative imagery was organized and used

Member insight for a national travel media association

Travel industry associations depend on members feeling heard, supported, and able to participate fully. But leaders do not always have a clear picture of what different members are experiencing, where barriers exist, or which concerns point to larger patterns.

Travel Unity supported a national travel media association through a confidential member assessment designed to surface candid feedback and guide practical next steps. The work included member survey analysis, focus group planning, review of association practices, findings presentations, and recommendations for leadership.

How Travel Unity helped:

  • Gathered candid member feedback across different roles and experiences
  • Identified themes related to belonging, access, accessibility, leadership trust, member engagement, cost, and representation
  • Helped leadership understand where communication, programming, operations, and member support could be strengthened
  • Created a clearer path for follow-up conversations and implementation
